Smart sockets, known as smart plugs, integrate wired electrical appliances into a smart home system. This makes normal table and floor lamps, for example, but also table fans or coffee machines controllable via app.
With a smart socket, a normal floor or table lamp becomes part of the smart home
Electrical appliances such as a fan or coffee machine can also be integrated via a smart plug.
Several light sources or devices are networked via a smart power strip.
The smart plug works like an adapter. It is plugged into the socket, the consumer itself into the smart socket. It can be integrated into the smart home either via WLAN, which enables operation from any location, or via Bluetooth, which does not require an internet connection.
Application example: If the table lamp in the children's room is fitted with a smart plug, the light can later be conveniently switched off by the parents from the living room.
Most well-known smart home systems have included a smart socket in their range, for example Homematic IP, tado°, Brennenstuhl, Innr, Ledvance and of course Philips Hue.
Special smart plugs with a higher IP protection rating from IP44 are available for outdoor areas. Regular smart sockets with IP20 or less must not be used outdoors as they lack protection against moisture and foreign bodies.
