Foscarini is an Italian lighting design brand that captures attention when illuminated and delights when turned off. Established in 1981 on the Murano island, the company enhances living spaces with both aesthetic and emotional appeal. Collaborating with acclaimed global designers and local artisans for over three decades, Foscarini has produced iconic luminaires that cater to both private and public settings.
Every lighting design by Foscarini has the motto Fare Luce, which means 'make light’, in mind during their creation. This means every lighting design encompasses the world of innovation and shape on the one hand and the world of vision, thought and light on the other.
Foscarini designers create their masterpieces with passion, emotion and feeling. Enthusiasm is one of the driving forces in the creative process, and great importance is attached to the freedom to think through and implement lighting ideas without mental blinkers. A dialogue between concept and form, which results in ever new designs, is one of the company’s foundations too. Their Italian roots shape their creative process, with particular importance given to focusing on high-quality craftsmanship.
Foscarini designers are free to experiment and play with different materials. At the top of the list are traditional glass art and blown glass. Fibreglass, painted PVC, metal, concrete and silicone are widely used too, as is ABS plastic, steel and aluminium.
Carlo Urbinati and Alessandro Vecchiato joined Foscarini as creative heads. In 1988 they became the new owners. And since 2014, Carlo Urbinati has been the sole CEO and president of Foscarini. From their pen came the Folio lamp, a reinterpretation of traditional glassblowing. Over the years, they’ve created the foundations for new creations that know no limits in design, processing techniques and cultural references.
Years of experience as an industrial designer in the sports industry distinguish Foscarini designer Marc Sadler. His innovative and experimental approach has resulted in award-winning cult creations, including Mite and Tite, which are made from a mixture of glass and carbon fibre. If this wasn’t enough, his light designs Kite, Twiggy, Tress and Jamaica have become modern classics thanks to their innovative look and use of technology.
As an architect and designer, Patricia Urquiola has made an international name for herself and received several awards for her works. Her lighting design for Foscarini, the Caboche Plus chandelier, was created in collaboration with Eliana Gerotto and is made of multiple crystal spheres. Elegant and stylish, it’s clear to see why it’s such a popular piece - and a lighting classic.
From Rodolfo Dordoni's mind came the timeless lighting classic Lumiere. This famous Foscarini piece completely reinterprets the traditional lampshade. Made of blown glass, it conveys emotions and convinces with absolute puristic beauty. In addition to Lumiere, Dordoni created the Buds collection for Foscarini and has designed multiple showrooms and exhibitions.
Besides Birdie, Tartan and Rituals, the organic pebble-shaped lamp Gregg is an outstanding creation by Ludovica and Roberto Palomba. The designer couple is famous for designs that enter their owners’ hearts - and makes them life-long champions of their work.
Together, designers Enrico Franzolini and Vicente Garcia Jimenez created the Foscarini classic: Big Bang. The Big Bang combines chaos and geometry and is a real eye-catcher. The dynamic structure of interlocking, crisscrossing planes creates an original and unprecedented lighting design unlike anything seen before.
If you want to control and change your lights to suit your needs and mood, the Foscarini MyLight is the answer. Using your smartphone or tablet, all you need is the free Casambi app to control any Foscarini light or lamp equipped with a MyLight module. The app automatically recognises these when switched on, allowing you to control the brightness and colour temperature. A timer function allows you to pre-programme when the lights come on, off or when you want to change the lighting mood.
