Northern - Scandinavian design traditions meet modern coolness
Northern was founded in 2005 by Ove Rogne and three friends in the Norwegian capital Oslo. Despite its relatively young age, the young design company already has a large fan base worldwide. This is because Northern's luminaires stand for a unique combination of pleasant light, exquisite materials, top quality and an unmistakably Scandinavian design language. The signature style also includes informal elements, surprising details and innovative coolness.

Northern works with a wide variety of designers, architects and design studios worldwide - including Atle Tveit, Yuue, Frost Produkt & Martina Capelan, Hans Bleken Rud and Morten & Jonas - to offer exactly the right lighting object for every living situation. Her luminaire designs not only provide the most beautiful light in private living spaces, but can also be admired in showrooms around the world.
The range from Northern is unique. It includes not only brand new designs, but also re-editions of world-famous lights. And this by none other than the pioneer of Norwegian lighting design: Birger Dahl. In addition to the Dokka pendant lamp and Birdy table lamp, he also designed the Dahl pendant lamp made of fine, hand-blown glass. In the new edition, Northern has taken care to retain the original designs and their functional properties, thus continuing Birger Dahl's legacy with modern materials.

Birger Dahl - Dokka & Birdy
Dokka pendant light was designed in 1954 by the pioneer of Norwegian lighting design, Birger Dahl. Together with his Birdy table lamp, designed in 1952, it won the coveted gold medal at the Milan Triennale in 1954. Both Dokka and Birdy have a typical Scandinavian design that deliberately avoids frills and decorative details.
Today, Dokka and Birdy are among the most influential lighting creations in Norwegian design history. In 2007, Northern reissued Dokka in a re-edition - resulting in new color variants such as Warm Beige, Steel or Black Matt. In 2013, Northern launched the new edition of the design classic Birdy, which is available not only as a table lamp but also as a wall and floor lamp.
Ove Rogne - Oslo
Ove Rogne is not only the founder and CEO of Northern, but also a designer. His enthusiasm for reissuing Norwegian retro classics from the mid-20th century is a driving force in the field of lighting design. For example, lamps by Birger Dahl. He is also committed to supporting young talent and launched the annual Northern Lighting Student Design Award in 2013. Rogne designed the award-winning Oslo Wood floor lamp inspired by the light of Oslo, which is filtered through the trees in the city center. Just like the trees in the city, the fabric shade - available in colors ranging from caramel to olive green - gently diffuses the light in the living room.
Hannakaisa Pekkala - Circle
The young Finnish designer Hannakaisa Pekkala pursues an extremely purist approach with her Circle pendant light, created in 2017. The starting point is the simple basic graphic form of the circle. With Circle, the young artist, who studied at the Institute of Design & Fine Arts in Lahti, Finland, captures the impression of a sketch: Made from a fine steel ring, the luminaire appears to be elegantly drawn into the room from every angle. The discreet yet unexpected design of the luminaire is particularly effective both on its own and in combination with several of its kind.
Atle Tveit - Acorn
Atle Tveit (born 1972) is a Norwegian furniture designer with his own design studio in Oslo. He graduated from the Bergen Academy of Art and Design in 2006 and has since received several awards, including the Award for Design Excellence and the Young Talent Award from the Norwegian Design Council. His Acorn pendant lamp belongs to a new generation of designs that embody the beauty of nature in a functional object - in this case inspired by the shell of an acorn.
Morten & Jonas - Over Me
Norwegian designers Morten Skjærpe Knarrum and Jonas Norheim - known as Morten & Jonas - founded their own studio in Bergen, Norway, after completing their master's degree at the Bergen Academy of Art and Design. Since then, they have created a number of acclaimed and award-winning designs. Her Over Me luminaire series blends discreetly into the wall or ceiling, yet is striking enough to play an eye-catching role in the interior.
Johanna Forsberg - Heat
Her self-taught journey began when Johanna Forsberg discovered steel mesh. Over the years, the artist and designer, who grew up in northern Sweden, has developed her very own methods for working metal mesh by hand. With the Heat luminaire series, Johanna Forsberg has created a spectacular lighting design that combines the illusion of fire with the playful outline of a cloud. The luminaire is an inspiration for artists all over the world when it comes to material innovation. And the social aspect is also important in the production process: in order to promote the artistic skills of socially disadvantaged people, Johanna Forsberg cooperates with a development agency that involves asylum seekers and unemployed migrants in the manual production process.
