Every luminaire that leaves serien.lighting is more than just a luminaire. It is passion and it is courage - the courage to be patient and innovative. It is the understanding and representation of light as a whole. Understanding light, shaping it and allowing it to have a unique effect on people is what serien.lighting is all about.
The German company serien.lighting was founded in 1985 by Manfred Wolf and Jean-Marc da Costa. The home and hub of today's internationally active company is the Main metropolis of Frankfurt. What began as a collaboration between two design students is now a permanent fixture on the German design scene and a global driving force in the industry.
In addition to the two founders, the company now has 35 permanent employees who, together with the ever-expanding network of international designers, allow serien.lighting to break new ground every day and constantly rise to the challenges of the rapidly developing lighting industry. With success! Numerous awards for the company and its products, such as the Design Plus Award, the Red Dot Award, the ICONIC Award, etc. and a constantly growing network of renowned artists underline the success of the two founders.
Manfred Wolf and Jean-Marc da Costa laid the foundations for this success story as students with the development of their "Lift", "Reflex", "Quadrat" and "Status Wand" luminaires. Developed as technical-functional luminaires at the Offenbach University of Art and Design, they were presented to the public in 1985 at the Martin Stoll furniture store parallel to the Cologne furniture fair - and were an immediate hit with the public! Just 6 months later, the lights were already available for sale to customers at 30 dealers.
The two up-and-coming designers' understanding of design: purist, pragmatic, almost sober. De Stijl and Bauhaus design influenced the designs and made them a provocation to the absolutely ornament-loving designs of the 1980s. And even today, the designs from serien.lighting still follow their very own ideas, concepts and visions, which make the luminaires light, clear and functional and yet absolutely profound and well thought-out and surprising down to the last detail.
The versatile range from serien.lighting includes lighting solutions for all areas of the home - in a wide variety of facets. It is both technical and decorative light for business premises, surgeries, restaurants and, of course, private homes. The products from serien.lighting are ingenious, timelessly elegant lighting solutions that always have their own unique form of expression, reflecting the era in which they were created. They are the result of an intensive examination of the elements of light, technology and design and are the end product of an intensive and courageous process of design, rejection and further development.
Because the designers from serien.lighting are not interested in having to present new trends at every trade fair or even chasing after them. Rather, it is our own interpretation of light as a whole and its future. Each product is granted the luxury of deceleration, each luminaire is given as much space and time as it needs to reach perfection and until nothing more can be added or taken away.
This is because the shape of the light is worked on until the perfect lighting effect is found, filigree technical constructions are developed and an independent, contemporary and yet timeless design is found. And only when these three components are in perfect harmony with each other does the idea of a luminaire become a luminaire from serien.lighting, which finds its way into the most diverse areas of people's lives, both indoors and outdoors. Because the aim of serien.lighting is to make a statement with every luminaire, to use new technologies convincingly and sensibly in them and thus to ensure that they last for years and decades.
However, it is not only the latest (LED) lighting technologies that are used in serien.lighting products, but also special, innovative materials such as ceramic foam or bi-metal that give the luminaire its uniqueness and innovative power. However, just as with the design, the careful selection of materials is also based on the room in which the luminaire is to be used, for what purpose and in what setting. Because form always follows function.
The luminaires from serien.lighting are designed to inspire people. Form and materiality take precedence over fast-moving fashions. Personality and quality before uniform, streamlined goods for many. Because attention to detail and quality, seriousness of design and enthusiasm for light and technology - this is what the high-quality lighting solutions from serien.lighting stand for.
The Design Plus Award, the Red Dot Award, the German Design Award, the ICONIC Award and many more. The Annex luminaire series, the App luminaires, the Curling luminaire family or Twin, One Eighty or Reef - just some of the numerous award-winning products and the various design prizes won, which impressively demonstrate the success of the serien.lighting company.
Go on a discovery tour and find your own personal dream lamp in the fascinating range from serien.lighting at Lampenwelt.de.
Like a noble, timelessly beautiful flower that comes to life - that is the unique Poppy luminaire series. Whether as a table, wall or floor lamp - this light is a very special highlight in the room in any form. The lamp, designed by Ulrich Beckert, Georg Soanca-Pollak and Peter Thammer, has a mouth-blown glass capsule available in various colors and a flexible, textile-coated lamp arm with fascinating petals that offer a very special spectacle. When the luminaire is switched on, the lamellae made of bi-metal slowly open - similar to a real flower - due to the change in temperature, gradually emitting the light into the room in a fascinating way.
A pendant luminaire, unique in form, function and elegance: the Twin pendant luminaire from serien.lighting is just such a luminaire. Designed by Hans Karuga, Twin is elegantly transparent in its structure - without appearing sober. Rather, it refers to its unique functional principle in a fascinating way.
This is because the distance between the two shades can be easily adjusted to individual requirements by pulling them apart. The lampshades always remain horizontal, regardless of the angle of the arms. The Twin luminaire opens up numerous design possibilities both when wide open and when standing close together - e.g. for elegant flower arrangements when extended.
And this unique combination of light, technology and design is impressive - the Twin or Twin LED luminaire not only received the coveted Design Plus Award, but also one of the most prestigious design awards of all - the German Design Award 2015 in gold in the "Excellent Product Design/Lighting" category - shortly after its first presentation.
With the Zoom pendant light, which can certainly be seen as a modern interpretation of the chandelier in terms of size and shape, the frame and light source form a fascinating fusion. The small LEDs, which are almost invisible to the observer, are installed on the back of the elegant stainless steel frame designed by Floyd Paxton and provide the most beautiful light for the living space. The frame itself impresses with the absolutely extraordinary functionality that is unique to the serien.lighting brand: the scissor construction resembles a camera aperture and its diameter can be flexibly adapted to the situation in the room - from a discreet 20 cm diameter when completely closed to an impressive 130 cm when wide open, anything is possible. The cone of light changes, illuminating the room individually in a fascinating way.
Like the Zoom pendant light, the Annex ceiling or pendant light has already won several awards and illuminates with modern LED lighting technology. The fascinating effect of this designer ceiling light is created by the different reflectors inside the mouth-blown conical shade. Depending on which reflector is selected, e.g. made of crystal glass or opal acrylic, completely differentiated lighting scenarios can be created in the room. The design of this almost archetypal ceiling light with that certain extra functionality comes from the well-known Frankfurt product designer Prof. Uwe Fischer.
