As the name suggests, a surface-mounted furniture light is mounted on a piece of furniture. Unlike recessed furniture lights, however, surface-mounted furniture lights are not built into the furniture, so they take up more space in the room than recessed lights. As they generate virtually no heat when they are in operation, there is no risk of the piece of furniture on which they are mounted catching fire.
