So much more than a transparent ball!

Anyone who thinks of pendant luminaires with glass lampshades as something fragile may be right about impact-resistant diffuser luminaires for industry, but they overlook the value for the interior. Because glass pendant lights are simply elegant, fantastically beautiful - and bright! This is because with many pendant luminaires made of glass, the light can shine unhindered in all directions. And to be honest: what are the chances of smashing the glass ball with a metal pipe in the kitchen, living room or dining room?

How high should I hang a pendant light with a glass shade above the table?

Normally you hit a glass with a teaspoon when you want to make toast. But not against the glass of the pendant light, please! But this is exactly what happens if the pendant light is simply hung too low. But it shouldn't hang too high either, otherwise the cozy atmosphere at the dining table will be lost.

The lower edge of a pendant light should be 60-80 cm above the table top. This provides enough space for heads to lean expectantly over the pot of spaghetti, gives a good view of the person sitting opposite and creates a beautiful light area around the dining table. This is how a successful evening in the pendant light should be!

How do I clean a glass pendant light?

It doesn't even get light in the room! Is the bulb broken? Or the light switch? Quickly switched on and off again - nothing again. Take a closer look. If you notice a thick layer of dust on your beautiful glass lampshades: sorry, the light can be as bright as it wants - it will remain dark.

Pendant lights with glass shades are beautiful. And to make sure they stay that way, you can give them regular simple care and cleaning. Don't worry, it really isn't difficult and you don't have to keep any appointments free. A good basic cleaning is already possible:

  • De-energize** the light via the fuse (circuit breaker). Check this again on the light with a 2-pole voltage tester.
  • Allow the luminaire to cool down completely.
  • Clean the light in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Lampenwelt recommends cleaning with dry microfiber cloths. Chemical or biological cleaners should not be used.
  • For glass crystal lights, we also recommend a special cleaner - please follow the instructions on the packaging.

After cleaning, try switching the light on again. And? Isn't it much brighter and nicer in the room?

I don't want a simple, clear, round lampshade like the ones from a hundred years ago, you say? Oh, you don't either? Then we have good news for you: Glass is the trend. And has been for many years.

So trendy that you will find a selection of pendant lights with glass shades that can compete with all other materials. Because glass is flexible. You can shape it into ever new forms, bellied, conical, flat, structured like a honeycomb, wavy or mirror-smooth. And combine with other materials such as cork, wood, textile and of course metal. Some luminaire designers move stylistically with copper colors rather in the vintage\ look. Others design colorful glass shades in retro\ style. And still others conjure up a rustic country house style luminaire with smoked glass.

Which light source works best in the glass pendant light?

Glass screens that you can see through are all well and good. But can't I see the light source? And then an energy-saving spiral or a frosted bulb with ballast ...
