Wallwashers: why indirect light has a direct influence on the ambience of a room!

What distinguishes the wallwasher from many "normal" wall luminaires is the direction in which the light is emitted. Wallwashers will never dazzle you. The light is directed towards the wall.

Are wallwashers also available with LEDs?
The light source of the wallwasher is usually concealed within the shell (however it is shaped). Whether an E27 or E14 bulb belongs in it, a small G9 bulb or an R7s rod lamp, is really only determined by the size of this bowl. But how do I make use of the advantages of LEDs with such a wallwasher? That's no problem! Thanks to Retrofit, simply buy a suitable LED light source for the socket of your wallwasher and you can save, enjoy freedom from maintenance and the best light quality. However, please pay attention to the dimensions of the new light source - after all, it must fit into the bowl and must not protrude, for example.
However, if you are about to buy a new wallwasher** anyway, then you can actually think about an LED wallwasher straight away. In our store you will find either with this designation:
- "normal" wallwashers (with socket), but which we supply with an economical LED light source
- or LED wallwasher with fixed LED board
You can almost always immediately recognize the permanently installed LED lighting technology by the exceptionally thin design, which looks almost futuristic, but at least minimalist. "You'll never fit a light bulb in here!" you think to yourself when you see these products. And you're right! The purist designs are really only possible with compact LED technology and never conceivable with a "bulky" bulb light source.
What advantages do wallwashers and ceiling washlights share?
Why are people so keen on ceiling washlights? Well, there are certainly several reasons for this: thanks to the plug, they can actually be placed anywhere, are easy to operate, but - their strength is also the light! This is because ceiling washlights are not directed into the middle of the room, but towards the ceiling. And if the ceiling is not pitch black, but bright (white at best), then the light is reflected from there into the room. And this light does not dazzle, but has a soft and cozy effect. Objects in rooms with such a light do not cast any shadows. In fact, you will find virtually no shadows in the room.
And wallwashers can do the same, except that they are mounted on the wall. Their light is also not directed towards the ceiling, but towards the wall. There it reflects and casts a similar indirect light into the room as the bowl at the head of the ceiling washlight.
**With wallwashers, make sure that the walls and ceiling are as bright as possible to ensure the best possible light distribution - otherwise a lot of the brightness will be "swallowed up". On the other hand, a single wallwasher is not sufficient for room lighting anyway. It is almost always supplemented by other wall lights and ceiling lights & Co.
What are sensible areas of application for wallwashers indoors?
You step into the hallway and a terracotta wallwasher immediately catches your eye with its warm glow. And perhaps reminds you a little of your last Mediterranean vacation. It's no substitute for a new vacation, but it might change your mind! You step into the living room and an exotic-look wallwasher reminds you that your adventure novel is still waiting for you tonight! But first it's off to the kitchen.
