Want to light up your workplace, home or conservatory?

What is a T8 G13 fluorescent tube light?

A T8 G13 fluorescent tube contains noble gas and a small amount of mercury with light produced by a gas discharge process. Electrons travel through the glass tube and react with its fluorescent coating, converting the UV radiation into visible light.

T8 G13 fluorescent tube lights are available in several wattages, including 15W, 18W, 30W, 36W or 58W.

The T8 G13 tube is 8/8 inch (26 mm) in diameter with a pin spacing of 13 mm at the base.

Please note: To install fluorescent tube lights, you will need a low-loss conventional or electronic ballast.

Where are T8 G13 fluorescent tube lights used?

Years ago, the light of the T8 G13 fluorescent tube used to have an extremely high colour temperature, making the light seem cold. Because of this, fluorescent tube lighting was mainly used in warehouses, garages, utility rooms and basements.

But with the development of warm light colours, T8 G13 fluorescent tube lights are now used in a wide variety of applications and settings, including mirrors, kitchens and conservatories.

Please note: T8 G13 fluorescent tube lights are available in many different lengths, and we’ll always specify the differences on our shop page.

If you’re looking for a replacement tube, make sure you know the right length, brightness in lumens and the colour temperature in Kelvin before you pop your replacement in your basket.

Are there LED alternatives to the T8 G13 fluorescent tube?

Absolutely!

And the best part?

The LED alternatives for the T8 G13 fluorescent tube lights have higher energy efficiency and longer service life than gas discharge lights.

What is the difference between a T8 and a T5 fluorescent tube?

The difference between a T8 and a T5 is the diameter of the base.

A T8 fluorescent tube has a diameter of 26 mm, whereas a T5 is 16 mm.

The length, electrical output, light colour and brightness of the tubes also vary, regardless of base size.
