A T8 G13 fluorescent tube contains noble gas and a small amount of mercury. Light is generated by a gas discharge process, which is why the light source is also known as a gas discharge lamp. The common term neon tube is incorrect.
Electrons travel through the glass tube and react with its fluorescent coating. This converts the UV radiation into visible light.
The T8 G13 fluorescent lamp has standard wattages such as 15W, 18W, 30W, 36W or 58W as well as a standardized tube diameter of 8/8 inch, i.e. 26 mm and a standardized lamp base with a pin spacing of 13 mm.
The connection is made via low-loss, conventional or electronic ballasts.
The light from the T8 G13 fluorescent tube initially had a very high color temperature, which made the light appear cold. Accordingly, the light source was mainly used in the garage or other utility rooms. With the development of warm light colors, T8 G13 fluorescent lamps have achieved a wider range of applications. Today, the light source is most commonly used in mirror lighting as well as in functional ceiling lights and some outdoor lights, for example.
Please note: The T8 G13 fluorescent tube is available in various lengths (e.g. 120 or 150 cm). We always specify the right light source for a luminaire in the store. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a replacement bulb, pay attention not only to the brightness in lumens and the color temperature in Kelvin, but also to the appropriate length.
There are high-quality LED alternatives for the T8 G13 fluorescent lamp. These have higher energy efficiency and service life than gas discharge lamps.
The difference lies in the diameter of the base: A T5 fluorescent lamp has a diameter of 16 mm, a T8 fluorescent tube has a diameter of 26 mm. The length, electrical output, light color and brightness of the tubes also vary regardless of the base.
The strike-through prices correspond to the manufacturer's RRP.
