Rod lamps for design and architectural lightingWhat are R7s lamps?
R7s light sources are rod lamps of various lengths (78 mm, 118 mm and 189 mm), which originally used halogen technology but are now often illuminated by LEDs. The rod lamp has a base with recessed contacts on both sides.
A special feature of the light source is the high maximum brightness, which is achieved by several 1,000 watts of power consumption in some cases, as well as the 360° light emission.

Where are R7s lamps used?
In the home, R7s light sources with lower wattages are used in ceiling washlights and many designer lights. Stendimi by Gigi Ranica (Knikerboker), Talo by Neil Poulton (Artemide) or Plana by Christophe Mathieu (Bover) are just a few of them. R7s lamps are also sometimes used in private outdoor areas.
Thanks to the high maximum brightness, R7s lamps are also ideal for professional building, sports field and construction site lighting.

Can all R7s halogens be replaced by R7s LEDs?
Similar sockets to E27, E14 or G9 are also available for R7s lamps high-quality LED alternatives. For residential luminaires and private outdoor luminaires, replacement is largely uncomplicated.
In the professional sector, on the other hand, R7s lamps often require a high maximum brightness. R7s LEDs cannot replace the several 1,000 watt halogen lamps. By way of comparison, an industrial luminaire with an R7s halogen lamp can generate 30,000 lumens with 1,500 watts. A similar level of brightness would not be possible with LEDs due to the heat sinks required and the small surface area of the lamp. However, R7s LED lamps, for example, achieve 2,500 lumens at around 15-20 watts, which is more than sufficient for living room lighting.

When is it worth converting from halogen to R7s LED lamps?

- a comfortable light color of <3,300 Kelvin
- significant energy savings.
