Flashlights

Functional, portable light

What types of flashlights are there?

Today's flashlights, or mobile light sources in general, are not only of a very high standard in terms of lighting technology, but also offer numerous additional functions. Modern brand flashlights can be water and weatherproof as well as impact and shockproof. This means they can withstand any weather and are resistant to impact on the ground, rocks etc. Other models are absolute lightweights at around 100 grams. Rubberized handles provide a secure grip even under extreme conditions. It is also helpful if the flashlight has a practical carrying loop and can be attached to your belt.

Flashlights are available in all shapes and sizes, e.g. as flat flashlights or particularly compact with a length of just around 10 cm, so that they fit in any glove compartment or school bag. Another variant is the camping lantern for carrying around and setting up safely.

Flashlights can be operated with rechargeable batteries as well as batteries. Typical batteries are AA or D, but also e.g. 3LR12 for flat flashlights. The required batteries are specified with the product and can also be purchased directly.

Variants with rechargeable battery are also used for camping, for example. Rechargeable camping lamps, which are not only charged via USB, but can also serve as a power bank for your smartphone, offer particular convenience.

Dynamo torches** are independent of rechargeable batteries or batteries. These have a crank that converts kinetic energy into electrical energy. This is very straightforward and provides light at all times - without the hassle of dead batteries at the wrong moment.

Lumen (or luminous flux) refers to the brightness of the light source. For indoor and outdoor lights and flashlights alike.

As modern flashlights often use LED as a light source in addition to e.g. krypton lamps, long battery runtimes of up to 10 hours are possible. In the case of camping lanterns even up to over 30 hours. In terms of luminous flux, for example, around 300-600 lumens are achieved with high-quality Cree LEDs. Many flashlights can also be dimmed down. Depending on the model, the light range can be several hundred meters and can also be adjusted on many flashlights.
