Calipso designer hanging light – unusual highlight for a modern living area

The designer Neil Poulton, who frequently works for the Italian lighting company Artemide, was responsible for the design of the Calipso LED hanging light. The native of Scotland now lives and works in Paris and is best known for his designs in the area of technology and lighting design.

Calipso’s lampshade has an unusual honeycomb structure, which has its origins in an even more unusual approach on the part of the designer. It is based on a photograph of the moon which has been edited by a computer. The result is a honeycomb pattern which looks very organic thanks to its irregular structure and provides a very homogeneous lighting effect.

For Artemide, Neil Poulton, whose work has already been awarded many prizes on an international level, has designed the Veio light, which was awarded the "Menzione d´Onore Premio Compasso d´Oro 2011”, amongst others.
