Designer wall lamp Poppy - its petals unfold after switching onWhen the sun rises in the morning, the world of plants also awakens. Slowly, the blossoms open and align themselves with the sunlight. The designers Ulrich Beckert, Georg Soanca-Pollak and Peter Thammer have taken this daily repetition of nature as a model and have developed a design lamp that imitates this effect. The 75 cm long arm of the luminaire sprouts out of the polished stainless steel mounting element and can find its way like the stem of a plant. Behind the black textile sheathing is a metal flexible arm that can be moved in all conceivable directions. At the end of the arm is the highlight of the wall lamp, the flower calyx. The illuminant sits in the black-violet reflector capsule made of mouth-blown glass - a perfect place, considering that the light envelops the glass capsule in a violet shimmer and at the same time emerges through the front opening. To perfect the look of the flower and to breathe life into Poppy, the designers came up with something very special. The metal slats, which at first seem like ordinary decorative elements to also adorn the flower with petals, turn out to be a physical masterstroke. The leaves are made of special bimetal - a material that expands when exposed to heat and contracts again when it cools down. When the lamellae are warmed up by the heat of the light source, they begin to unfold within two minutes - just as a plant does when exposed to sunlight. When Poppy is switched off, the petals close again. So Poppy is a blossoming masterpiece that fills the living room with a floral flair and immediately captivates everyone who watches the spectacle of the opening flower.
