Foscarini Spokes 1 - LED pendant lamp in cage lookLike an aviary the birds, Foscarini's LED pendant lamp Spokes 1 seems to want to hold the light captive. Its voluminous cage shade made of filigree round steel tubes evokes associations with the spokes of a wheel. These also served the creators García and Cumini as a source of inspiration for the product name, because "spokes" means "spokes". Spokes 1 is more air and space than material and mass - its resulting lightness is the trademark of the product series.From the technical side, Spokes 1 convinces with a fascinating lighting effect. On the underside of the cage shade, which is painted matt with epoxy powder, sits an aluminum disc in the center - simultaneously housing and heat sink for the DALI-dimmable LED chips. These cast a punctual light onto the underlying surface and simultaneously illuminate the voluminous shade. The bundled, relatively small light beam sets a clear contrast to the volume of the screen. Cleverly, the supply line, which supplies the LEDs with power, was integrated into one of the metal struts, so that it is not visible from the outside. The pendant lamp is held by a thin suspension made of stainless steel, which makes the bulbous lamp body literally float in space.Vicente García Jiménez and Cinzia Cumini designed the Spokes lamp series in 2015 for the Venetian lighting company Foscarini. In its designs, the García Cumini studio always places great emphasis on technological innovations paired with artistically creative forms of expression.
