VL45 Radiohus hanging light with beautiful glass lampshade

The VL45 Radiohus hanging light – a designer object by Vilhelm Lauritzen – is distinguished by its wonderful lampshade made of hand-blown opal glass, which emits soft, even lighting. The opening at the base causes the light to shine downwards in bundled fashion. In addition, the composition of the glass creates a very even illumination of the surface of the light.

VL45 Radiohus can be installed high up near the ceiling or low, without taking anything away from its beauty.

The designer Vilhelm Lauritzen (1894-1984) was one of the most important architects in Denmark. He created renowned buildings, including the Nørrebro Theatre, the Radiohuset radio station and the first airport in Copenhagen. He intentionally incorporated daylight into his architectural designs. He also knew how to design beautiful lights and did so by combining strong, targeted light that created shadows with a weaker, more scattered light for nuance. This can be seen with the VL45 Radiohus hanging light.

The Danish lighting manufacturer Louis Poulsen included the first light developed by Lauritzen for the Danish broadcasting house in its product catalogue. During the 1950s, the range grew in line with the designer’s large construction projects.
