VL45 Radiohus designer hanging light by Vilhelm Lauritzen

The renowned Danish architect Vilhelm Lauritzen designed lights for the broadcasting building in Copenhagen in the 1940s. In 2016, the hanging lights were revived by the Danish manufacturer Louis Poulsen under the name VL45 Radiohus, keeping the original design and materials.

The hanging light has a lampshade made of handblown opal glass that consists of three layers: an inner and outer layer of transparent, glossy glass and a middle layer of white glass. The lampshade has an opening at the bottom, through which a beam of light is directed downwards. The light also gently penetrates the opal glass so that the lampshade lights up on all sides, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Vilhelm Lauritzen, who designed the first Copenhagen Airport and the Nørrebro Theatre, was one of Denmark's most important architects. In his lights, he combined a powerful light and a weaker light to create an interplay of contours and nuances.
