Design pendant lamp Wohlert made of glass - created by Vilhelm Wohlert
The Wohlert pendant lamp is characterized by an almost spherical shade made of matt, white, mouth-blown glass. The shade is open at the bottom and radiates the light mainly directly downwards. However, a soft glow of light also penetrates all around through the glass surface. The ideal luminaire for mood lighting with an atmospheric character. Wohlert is suitable both for basic lighting and for targeted area lighting, for example of a table. The suspension height can only be varied during installation. The pendant tube is made of brushed steel and reinforces the modern look.
The creative mind behind this timelessly beautiful lamp design is Vilhelm Wohlert (1920-2007). He graduated as an architect from the Royal Danish Academy of Art in 1944. One stage of his working life was as a professor (1968-1986) at the Royal Danish Academy of Art. He was also deputy director there from 1968-1971. From 1951-1953 he held a visiting professorship at the University of California, Berkeley, in the USA.
Wohlert designed, among other things, the Louisiana Museum of Art. In addition to his work as an architect, he designed a series of luminaires in collaboration with the Danish luminaire manufacturer Louis Poulsen, including - together with Eleni Birkner - the Magnum luminaire in 1995, the Magasin ceiling luminaire (1974), the Micro luminaire (1991) and the Satellite pendant luminaire (1959). Wohlert was awarded the Gold Medal for his creative work in 1949 and the C. F. Hansen Medal of the Royal Danish Academy of Art in 1979.
The pendant lamp Wohlert is produced by the company Louis Poulsen from Denmark, which - starting with the three-shade system of Poul Henningsen in 1925/26 - always follows the guiding principle "to give form to light". The aim is to create an ambience that lets people and rooms shine in the right light.
