The original Wagenfeld table lamp - quality and history made in Germany
The Wagenfeld table lamp from the manufacturer TECNOLUMEN is the only re-edition of the original that has been authorised by Professor Wagenfeld. Its authenticity is verifiable, based on the characteristic features of this lighting product.
These include the more or less hemispherical lampshade made of handblown opal glass, which, with a fine border made of nickel-plated metal, merges into the rod and the round base plate. Another quality feature here is the characteristic grommet on the socket, where the black pull cord for turning the Wagenfeld table lamp on and off is located. At the end of the cord, there is little ball, which is also nickel-plated. Connected to the round metal base is the black fabric-covered electric power cable.
Only the combination of these individual components guarantees the authenticity of this designer product. For the purpose of verification, each light bears the TECNOLUMEN/BAUHAUS stamp under the base plate and is numbered consecutively.
The Wagenfeld table lamp is more than a lighting product. It is a light that brings a piece of German history into the home.
A story like a good novel - the Wagenfeld table lamp
The Wagenfeld table lamp tells a truly impressive story. The action takes place at the State Bauhaus in Weimar, the design college during the Weimar Republic. The leading artists of the time met there and created countless masterpieces, which are now known under the term Bauhaus design and are undisputed classics of the modern age. Their hallmark is the shape, which always follows the purpose, the material properties and the production method.
The Wagenfeld table lamp is a product by Wilhelm Wagenfeld, who was just 24 years old and had become a journeyman at the Bauhaus in 1924. He created this model to fulfil a task assigned by László Moholy-Nagy, a former teacher. The result was a light with the character of an industrial product, but actually manufactured by hand. At the same time, the Wagenfeld table lamp marked the start of Wilhelm Wagenfeld’s long career as a teacher and the director of various metal and glass workshops, and as a professor at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin.
The company TECNOLUMEN - a product range with heart
TECNOLUMEN focuses on the Bauhaus style - its first product was the Wagenfeld table lamp in 1979. In addition to Wilhelm Wagenfeld’s designs, TECNOLUMEN also incorporates other Bauhaus design classics into its product range - from Marianne Brandt to designs by other designers such as Walter Schnepel. Art Déco and De Stijl designs also inspire the product range of this manufacturer.
HINT FOR USE: you are recommended not to use light bulbs with clear glass bulbs, as these could produce shadows on the opal glass.
SPARE LAMPSHADE: the opal glass lampshade with a nickel-plated metal rim, which was designed on the basis of original templates, is also available individually with the article number 9030005 (see accessories).
