The Wagenfeld multi-purpose light - a piece of German design history
Lampenwelt.de prides itself on being an "authorised TECNOLUMEN partner", as this is the only brand to produce the history-steeped Wagenfeld lights in the form of detailed replicas of Professor Wilhelm Wagenfeld's designs. Their authenticity is guaranteed by the TECNOLUMEN stamp and the numbering under the base of the light.
The real hallmark of the Wagenfeld multi-purpose light is the cylindrical glass lampshade. This is supported by a nickel-coloured frame. The frame’s two joints make the light into the famous multi-purpose light. The versatility of his product was Wilhelm Wagenfeld’s guiding principle in 1930, and the product is still produced at TECNOLUMEN to this day.
The Wagenfeld multi-purpose light brings a piece of German design history to the living spaces and workspaces where it is used.
The history of the light is closely linked to the flourishing of the Bauhaus in Weimar from the 20s. Something completely new was created there, as the Bauhaus was based on the idea of bringing together art and craft. The aftermath of this movement is still being felt today, and its ideas are found all over the world. The Wagenfeld multi-purpose light is Wilhelm Wagenfeld’s interpretation of the Bauhaus style in the form of a lamp and is a real masterpiece of product design. Wilhelm Wagenfeld himself was not satisfied with the role of designer and accepted a professorship in Berlin, as well as many other positions.
As a company, TECNOLUMEN is the industrial continuation of Wilhelm Wagenfeld’s artistic visions. The company offered Wagenfeld's table lamp as its first product in 1979. Wagenfeld is not the only Bauhaus visionary whose ideas have been put into production by TECNOLUMEN. Designs by Marianne Brandt or Walter Schnepel have also been incorporated into the company’s product range. Few companies are committed to such a strict artistic concept as TECNOLUMEN. However, the re-edition of the Wagenfeld multi-purpose light shows that this stringent approach is reflected in the quality of the products.
