The Wire Lamp - Verner Panton's luminous addition to the Pantonova furniture series The Wire Small table lamp from VERPAN impresses with its unusual design principle. A lamp base formed from chrome-plated metal wire, precisely crafted without weld seams, merges into a plastic hemisphere that shields the bulb. The bulb sits in the centre of a chrome-plated metal reflector, which directs the light towards the hemisphere. The Wire Lamp only reveals the translucency of its lampshade when the light is switched on. This creates a wonderfully glare-free, soft light that lends the surroundings a high degree of cosiness. The plastic hemisphere is removable so that the bulb can be easily inserted and replaced. Verner Panton was an excellent furniture designer. With the Pantonova series, which he designed and produced in 1971 for the Varna restaurant in Århus, Denmark, he created a series of avant-garde pieces of furniture, all of which consisted of parallel wire rods and open side sections. The various pieces of seating furniture in the Pantonova series are complemented by shelving systems, tables and various accessories, all of which can be freely combined with one another. Pantonova expresses Verner Panton's design concept of never seeing only the individual object, but rather incorporating the entire room into the design. One year later, in 1972, the Wire Lamp was the perfect complement to the Pantonova furniture series. The design of the table lamp echoes the construction of the furniture and rounds off the design concept of this series as a cosy source of light.
