Gems for cozy islands of light: modern floor lamps

The fact is: Not every modern floor lamp can do everything. But there really are many different models with very different features and styles. Conversely, this means that you should first think about what you expect from your modern floor lamp and then you should search specifically. For example, do you want to cozy up with a book, light up your home office or do some arts and crafts with the kids? You can just as easily create pretty islands of light with modern floor lamps and structure the room attractively. There are no limits to your imagination.

What types of modern floor lamps are there?

They can be roughly subdivided as follows:

  • Classic floor lamps:\ consist of a base, a straight frame and, in most cases, a shade. However, there are also models that manage without them because the light sources are already playfully built into the frame. Classic floor lamps are used to structure the room and create beautiful islands of light.
  • Arc lights:\ have - as the name suggests - a curved frame. Simply drape the base under the sofa and let the light shine comfortably onto the sofa from above.
  • Ceiling washlights:\ flood the ceiling with light - this is where they differ from ordinary floor lamps. With a bright ceiling, the light is then distributed particularly beautifully and gently throughout the room. And most uplighters also have an extra reading lamp on a flexible arm especially for reading. Very practical.
  • Tripod lights:\ are different from the other lights. They stand on three legs like a camera tripod - and carry a wide variety of umbrellas. Fabric umbrellas with wooden frames, for example, fit in perfectly with the popular hygge style.

Which light sources belong in the modern floor lamp?

Please don't say: a light bulb. Or a halogen lamp. Didn't you want to? Very good. Because modern LED technology is known to have many advantages. That makes the choice easy, of course:

  • Save money and protect the environment
  • 80-90% less energy consumption than with a light bulb
  • 50 times longer service life
  • Up to 50,000 hours of pure light
  • Excellent thermal management and therefore durability

Tip: Many modern LED floor lamps already have the light source permanently installed, but if you have a floor lamp with a socket, you can also simply convert to LED. Simply replace the old bulbs with LED bulbs with the matching base.

Are modern floor lamps dimmable?

That would really be a thing if there were no dimmable floor lamps! After all, they make the room really cozy. A dimming function is not exactly counterproductive. To make sure that you really get a dimmable model, you should use the filter in the shop beforehand. You can select "Dimmer" or "Touch dimmer" - also super practical.

Which rooms are suitable for modern floor lamps?

You are completely free. Whether in the living room, dining room, bedroom, hallway, study or children's room. Modern floor lamps in attractive designs always look good. Tip: They are less recommended in very small rooms as they take up a little space on the floor, as well as in damp rooms such as bathrooms or kitchens. This is because floor lamps with an IP protection rating are comparatively rare.

What colors and materials are modern floor lamps available in?

This is also a broad field. Depending on your taste and preferred style, you can find great models here. From simple design pieces to eye-catching models with rough wooden legs à la Scandi to eye-catching eye-catchers in various colors and shapes, everything is available.
